DJ John
I grew up constantly around music and at age 9 I played my first professional event as a piano player and from that point on it was nearly an every weekend thing. By age 12 I was playing 7 different instruments as well as writing and singing and became part of a family based show band. At 14, I started working as a DJ at a roller skating rink on Sundays and at 16 became an assistant technical engineer for a large broadcasting company in my hometown near Chicago.
Between the band and the DJ events there was barely any time for a normal life or school or much else. At age 25 I traded the musical instruments for a mixing console and started doing sound and lighting work for bands and theatrical events. I have designed and built 7 different broadcast facilities
that are still on the air in 3 states as well as 3 recording studios and in my early 30's became a full time broadcast music programming and engineering consultant with a specialty in transmitting and studio audio systems. At 36, I traded that for medical electronics but still continued to work nightclubs as a DJ or karaoke operator on weekends until I was 56. I came to Second Life when I was 50 specifically
because of the clubs and the performances and I have explored all this grid and a few others have had to offer.
I started at Muddy's in March 2011 which was also my very first SL club and it has been an amazing 10-year run. It's unique when a group of people can come together from all over the world and do what we do to keep going and I can speak for all of us and say we are so grateful that you have been here to entertain and keep coming back and we all have met and made many friends here. It's a crazy, slightly dysfunctional family behind the scenes, but we always pull together when the going gets tough because as it is said, the show must go on. For myself it's always been about the music and entertainment, to make someone laugh, smile and forget about real life for a while. I see no end in sight anytime soon.
Thank you for being here and making it possible to do what we do every day.
