DJ Niecho
I only DJ so I can "mic up" and teach others to pronounce my name-- "NEE'ko" rather than "Nee-AH-cho" or even "Nacho", a personal fav! It's become a consistent amusement in hearing which of my co-workers pronounce it correctly vs. how many butcher my name since I began Second Life back in 2007. I figure when I hit the 20 year mark, I may add a few more silent consonants, maybe a vowel or two, just to see what folks come up with next!
But in all seriousness, music has been a huge part of my life since I was a child. Having first been introduced to music and band in school, I was trained as a multi-instrumentalist since I was 10 years old and achieved district, state, and even national awards and recognition. As I entered college and pursued other paths, it was something I missed terribly. It was a natural segue in Second Life to immerse myself into subjects where I could, once again, explore it. I've danced and done choreography for nearly ten years, performing on stage during shows for various troupes throughout Second Life including Men In Motion. Over time, I became burned out on it, and friends who were DJ's urged me to pick up a microphone because of my love of music and my voice and join them. I haven't looked back.
Who doesn't love a great time with great folks?! You catch yourself swaying, moving, toes tapping, dancing in your chair-- it just affects you in a way you may not begin to have the words to describe. I call it "taking their temperature" trying to read the crowd, finding out what will excite them, thrill them, make them sing along,... make even the stodgiest in the crowd unable NOT to dance along. And because we're all people behind the keyboards, I try to connect with them, often laughing and speaking to them as I would a friend I'm trying to energize and uplift their spirits.
When I am not on stage or hanging out in a club listen to other DJ's work their magic, I enjoy spending time finding that balance of social and solitude in creating. I create avatar shapes and styles, do photography (portraits mainly), create tattoos as well as gestures with or without sound, and am currently learning landscaping and Blender (to create mesh) to build my own store.
And when offline, I am chasing down a 15-year old, 17-pound cat I affectionately call "The Overlord".
