DJ Toohey

Originally from the UK and now calling Australia home, Toohey has always been a bit of a radio nerd at heart.

He started DJing back in 2009, and over the years that journey has taken him through Second Life, real-world clubs and pubs, weddings, commercial gigs and even FM radio. Eventually he hung up the headphones and retired from DJing altogether. Or at least, that was the plan.

Then came Muddy's.

What started as dipping a toe back into DJing quickly reignited the spark. These days, a Toohey set tends to feel as much like a radio show as a traditional DJ set, with jingles, features, audience interaction, questionable humour and probably far more audio equipment than anyone reasonably needs.

Toohey's taste in music is pretty broad, but he's always had a soft spot for a great pop record, a big chorus and those songs you haven't heard in years but somehow still know every word to. He's just as interested in finding something new as rediscovering something forgotten, and doesn't believe the next song always has to make perfect sense after the last one.

For Toohey, though, it's always been about the people. Whether you're dancing in the club or listening along on the radio, you're part of the show. Requests, opinions, challenges and a little audience mischief are always encouraged, and everyone is welcome to get involved. The best sets aren't something Toohey performs at an audience. They're something everyone in the room creates together.

Behind the stream, Toohey is an unapologetic technology and audio geek, forever tinkering with something, experimenting with the sound, or finding another piece of equipment he absolutely definitely needs.
